“A direct confrontation with the shadow self, the parts of ourselves that we try to bury or ignore — the deep, uncomfortable emotions and tendencies we’d rather not face. The shadow self isn’t passive; she’s active, trying to remain hidden, fighting against the light that attempts to reach her. As I attempt to shine light on her, she becomes more erratic, more defiant. The painting captures this moment of tension — the struggle between exposure and concealment.”
