Latest Figure + Form Collection, Featuring Bold Color
Through my latest series of figure studies, I wanted to experiment with the play on color. Normally, I am pushing the concept of masculine color palettes with a feminine subject-- but here, I wanted to see the transformation that would occur when pairing these thoughts with bright colors. Many of these compositions consist of both warm and cool, whether it is the washes of paint or the scrape of pastels. It's rather interesting to see how certain colors can really explode through out small and large compositions, changing the mood of the piece. Does it prohibit the viewer from seeing the whole story, or welcome you into it honestly, maybe even more than usual?
Each of these figure paintings was inspired by writings from my journal; past and present. They each convey a mood, a thought, a line-- working the poses to relate in some way. Detailed photos of these nude studies show deckled edges, textured pastel markings, bold watercolor washes, and implied shadow. If you scroll to the bottom, I've shared the project vision board I had created to put thoughts in place for this collection of nudes.
20 of these studies were debuted on my website last week, and several more are still available. They range in all sizes, from 4x6 up to 16x20, and look wonderful in almost any color frame. To see what's left, you can click the button below xx
